Therapy for Lasting Change

Why Therapy?

Why should you go to therapy?  Why should you come to therapy with me?

Why therapy?

Struggling with Depression?  Living with anxiety?   Frustrated in your life with your work, relationships or with other personal problems?  Personal and emotional problems can impact many areas of your life.  Have you tried working on your struggles and gotten nowhere?   Does it feel like friends and family can't help, don't understand or you don't want to "burden" them with your problems?   Counselling offers you a dedicated time with a compassionate, skilled therapist who can help you understand your problems, whether it be with depression, anxiety or relationships in a different way and challenge you to move forward in your growth.

There are many times in life that we need or want to bring a professional to help, either because we can't do it on our own or we are not getting the results we want. We use the services of accountants to do our taxes, personal trainers, mechanics, photographers, hairdressers and so on. Working with a skilled, trained therapist is doing the same thing for your mental health and well being and is one of the best investments you can make in yourself.  If you are struggling with issues of depression, anxiety, family or relationship problems counselling can help.

Why me?

With over 10 years experience as a therapist working with children, adolescents, adults, families and couples I have both the training and experience in treating a wide range of issues including depression, anxiety, ADHD, ADD, Bi-polar, family therapy, couples counselling and everything in between.   I believe, and have been told, that I am a compassionate and skilled therapist.   Together we can actually make a difference in your life, as long as you are willing to work for it.   In our work together I will use a variety of "theories" but most importantly I will work with you where you are in the moment.   I will ask you to try things outside your comfort zone, in order to push you forward, but I do not force theories or ideas on you.   In me you will have more than just a devoted listener but also a competent therapist to help you work through your problems and move towards change.   The most important component of successful therapy is the relationship you have with the therapist.  Building relationships is a particular strength of mine.

As you work to change your life and your relationships with depression, anxiety, with yourself or others I can provide you with a non-judgmental, compassionate, skilled, therapeutic approach to addressing difficulties in your life and working towards lasting change.  My approach is to learn about you, to work collaboratively in a relationship based on trust and to draw on my years of experience and theory. Primarily I work from the following frameworks or theories:

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Positive Psychology
Strength Based

However, I often draw upon other strategies and each session and client is unique with different needs and expectations.  I do not presume to be the expert on your life, however I will challenge you to move beyond what you believe are your limitations.  Together we will optimize your emotional well-being, empower you to take charge of your life and work alongside each other to overcome obstacles along the way.

Whether you are struggling with depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties or trying to find balance for yourself in your life or anything in between.   Working together, not just to rid you of any unwanted behaviours, patterns, thoughts or problems but to move beyond that to help you realize your full potential, change the patterns that have contributed to your way of being now and to help you feel fulfilled and content.

I encourage you to call or email to arrange an appointment to see if we could be a good fit. If you feel someone else would fit you better I can direct you to another therapist because what is best for you is important to me.
